Accessibility

Section 508 of the Rehabilitation Act requires all Federal websites to be fully accessible to people
with disabilities.

This means providing access to websites to individuals with:
  • The inability to see, hear, or move easily
  • Busy or interfered-with eyes, ears, or hands; for example, working in a loud environment
  • Difficulty reading or comprehending text
  • Color-blindness or visual impairments
  • No access to, or inability to use, a keyboard or mouse
  • An early version of a browser, a non-standard browser, a voice browser or other assistive technology, or a non-standard operating system
  • A slow connection, small screen, or text-only screen
  • The inability to speak or understand the language in which the document is written

The "IRS Employee Plans Videos" website has been built and tested for Section 508 compliance using the industry-recognized software Watchfire® BobbyT, offering accessibility to the widest audience possible. More information on Watchfire® BobbyT is available at http://www.watchfire.com/products/webxm/bobby.aspx.

In addition, this website also features many design elements that improve usability and accessibility in accordance with Section 508. For example, to help those with limited vision, bold and contrasting colors are used and color combinations that are difficult for the color-blind to distinguish are avoided. The individual courses also feature straightforward section headings and links that are structured on-screen in a manner that makes them easy to find and understand. Finally, the audio is simply reading the text on the screen.
